RE/MAX Paradise Homes donates to Reforestation Project San José

At the end of November, RE/MAX Paradise Homes made a donation to Reforestation Project San José. The goal of this project is to return the original flora and fauna to Bonaire. For example, they are currently replanting a 33-acre piece of undeveloped land near Lac Cai. This will prevent mud from flowing into the bay with mangroves.

Research shows that Bonaire will be hit hard by climate change. If no measures are taken, much of the island will disappear underwater. Reforestation and strengthening Bonaire's mangroves will help protect the island from the effects of climate change. The goal of Reforestation Project San José is to return the original flora and fauna to Bonaire. One way they do this is by replanting a large piece of land near Lac Cai. Sediment flows into Lac Bay through this formerly fallow land. This sediment affects the mangroves.

The work within the project

First, this area was cleared and cleaned. Then, with the help of volunteers, a fence was erected around it to keep out donkeys and goats. Then more than a thousand local trees were planted. Through a sprinkler system, these young trees are supplied with water. Several old dams have also been restored and raised on the property. These dams should better retain the rainwater that falls during the rainy season. This prevents further sediment from flowing into Lac Bay.

Now that water is better retained for the planted trees, a great place for waterfowl has also been created. In addition to waterfowl, Loras, Bonaire's local parrot species, are regularly spotted at San José. But most importantly, of course, the planting of young trees in this area has greatly reduced mud runoff into the fragile Lac Bay.

Reforestation Project San Jose depends on donors and sponsors. Like RE/MAX Paradise Homes, would you like to contribute financially? Then you can donate yourself. From your donation, a number of trees will be planted on your behalf, or on behalf of your company.
