A day to Klein Bonaire

Klein Bonaire is an uninhabited island off the coast of Bonaire. Here you go to enjoy a day of sun, sea and beach. Snorkeling is also highly recommended, the reefs here are beautiful. In this blog we give you tips for a wonderful day on Klein Bonaire.

Tip: apply sunscreen well and regularly. There is almost no shade on Klein Bonaire.

Klein Bonaire is a relatively flat island and is only 6.5 feet above sea level. The distance between the island and Bonaire is only 0.5 miles. With the water cab you can get there in no time. The most famous beach on the islet is "No Name Beach". This is also where the water cabs drop you off. Depending on where you get on, the water cab takes between fifteen and twenty minutes to reach the other side. The islet does not have a jetty, so you have to walk the last bit through the shallow water.

Tip: take enough food and drink with you to Klein Bonaire, there are no bars or restaurants on the island. There are also no toilets.

Klein Bonaire

Once you arrive at Klein Bonaire, you imagine yourself in paradise. The beautiful white sandy beach lies at your feet, surrounded by the clear blue Caribbean Sea. Find a spot on the beach, or under one of the two canopies for some shade. The clear blue water has a pleasant temperature and invites you to go swimming or snorkeling.

The reefs of Klein Bonaire are beautiful. Underwater you will see colorful corals, tropical fish and occasionally sea turtles. Klein Bonaire is also a favorite place for sea turtles to lay their nests. These are made on the beaches of the island. So regularly you will come across a nest of them, cordoned off with poles and ribbons to prevent it from being overrun by humans.

Tip: If you want to spend a day on Klein Bonaire, get out on time. Due to the coral disease currently in the sea around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, the times the island is accessible are limited. Monday through Saturday, the islet is open to the public between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm. On Sundays, the island is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, but no snorkeling or diving is allowed after 2:00 pm. Swimming is still allowed after 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Snorkel tour to Klein Bonaire

Of course, you can go to Klein Bonaire on your own. Water cabs regularly sail to and from the island. But if you want more comfort, book an excursion to the island. Most of the excursions are conducted by catamarans. You can leave your belongings on board and toilets are available. In addition, snacks and drinks are often included during the tour. So you don't have to bring your own cooler to the islet.

Tip: On days when there is a cruise ship in the harbor of Kralendijk it can be busy on Klein Bonaire. Rather choose another day if you like peace and quiet.

You can visit Klein Bonaire daily between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
